3. Reports:
President's report: ( Kevin Phelan) discussed the school's website and the possibility of PTO taking over or at least
assisting Mrs. Corradino with it. There were quite a few computer savvy people who have offered to help, so that will
be a great addition/update to Weston.
Correspondence: (Wendy Hudson) There was a thank you
card in the box from Chrissy Shea for her end of year/term farewell gifts.
Principal: (Mrs. MacDonald) Mrs. Mac reported that the school is finally getting settled in after a
very trying September. We have many, many new students in our school and everyone is adjusting well. Mrs. Mac
commented on NECAP testing which was also a trying experience for the younger grade. More testing to be done this week.
Treasure's Report: (Tammy Webb) Tammy didn't have any
numbers yet from the fundraiser to run any kind of report for us.
Campbell's LFE (Dee Kinney):
Dee reported on Box Tops collections and Campbell's LFE label collections. Box Tops are going strong. Through
the month of September we have roughly 3,600 passed in and will have around 8,000 when she passes in the rest. Keep
those box tops coming as they are money for the school. The Campbell's labels are also important as we can
pick out something for Weston School after collecting so many labels/points. Last year we got two digital cameras with
the amount of label's we collected.
Hannaford School Dollars: (Michelle Carrier) Michelle reminds parents to watch
their receipts at Hannaford's and pass them into the school when you see points on your receipt. If you know you
bought something that should count and it doesn't say on your receipt, please see customer service. They will fix
it for you. Please bring these receipts in, we are low in numbers from this time last year.
4.
Old Business:
Fall Event Wrap Up. (Anne Desaulniers) We
had a wonder turnout. We had about 441 People show up at this event. It was a great time by all, even with the
5 min rain shower...... Wait for more exciting adventures next year. :)
Candidate Forum: We were looking to have a possible Candidate Forum for wards 2, 4 and 6. Maybe just a Q
and A. Or have questions preset and ready for each candidate, so we can see where they stand and can learn more about them.
Kevin is working out the details whether this can happen in time or not.
Backpack Initiative.
This program will give backpacks filled with supplies to those who don't have the means for such. We decided we
are definitely going to do this. We will start next summer and fill as many backpacks as we can during the wonderful
back to school sales and be able to give it to any students who need it during the first week of school.
5.
New Business:
Fundraiser Update: (Jen Lenox) - The fundraiser was low this year. We are about $6,000
less than last year. We will therefore have another budget meeting to go over numbers again. There was also discussion
about having a Yankee Candle fundraiser for our Christmas shopping convenience which we are all for. We are just checking
with Yankee Candle to see if this is possible.
Bingo Night (Michelle Carrier) - Bingo night is a big sponsor to our Thanksgiving
baskets. It is a huge event for the school. There are raffles for wonderful prizes, like IPODS, Video Gaming systems,
American Girl dolls, etc. Admittance is a canned vegetable to support our thanksgiving baskets. Bingo night promises
to be a lot of fun for all. The date we are looking at right now is November 12. We have around 300-325 in attendance
each year.
Stop N. Shop - (Judy Martin ) Judy has given SNS our tax id numbers and we
are all set up now to accept peoples card numbers so that when we shop, a percentage goes to Weston.
Thanksgiving Baskets (Becky Burke, Ann Desaulniers, Amy Merrow and Caroline
Glennon) We are already gearing up for this wonderful adventure. We provide thanksgiving meals to our Weston families
who are in need. Proceeds from Bingo night will go toward this cause.
